The garda – a recent Templemore graduate – was threatened at gunpoint after he identified himself as an officer.

AN OFF-DUTY GARDA faced down and disarmed an armed raider at a shop in Dublin yesterday.

It happened shortly before 1.30pm at a convenience store on Oxmantown Road, in the Stoneybatter area.

The garda, a recent Templemore graduate, entered the shop as the robbery was in progress.

After identifying himself as a member of the force, the officer was threatened at gunpoint by the raider.

According to a statement from the gardaí:

The off-duty garda confronted the raider, successfully disarmed him and continued to restrain him until local gardaí arrived.
